The CSS8018, in my opinion, is the best value in commercial 70V distributed audio today. For under $50, you won't find a 70V speaker/grille package that delivers more balanced, clear sound than this one. On the industry standard 1W tap (white and black on this transformer; black to common and white to hot), you get plenty of volume for most applications. If you need this speaker to deliver even more volume, you get transformer taps all the way up to 10W delivering well over 110dB.Many reviewers who are undoubtedly not too familiar with 70V distributed audio will take stars away from this product because it doesn't include tile rails or a backcan. You should know, if you're also unfamiliar, that the other heavy-hitters in the industry (Quam, Atlas/Soundolier, Bogen, Lowell, etc.) also require mounting accessories to be purchased separately unless you buy their far more expensive kit. It has always been that way.I would highly recommend the JBL CSS8018 for anyone looking for a budget ceiling speaker assembly who wants excellent, balanced sound quality for the price. Want even better sound? You should buy the Atlas GD87W, but just know that's going to set you back another $40-45 per speaker.

Distributive sound is not my thing. I bought this to demonstrate to a client how her existing speakers were bad. She heard this one by comparison and instantly said.... Let's replace all of them. For the price it's a great speaker, particularly for speech. Distributive 70 volt speaker systems work for background music and speech. All 70V systems decrease the sonority of music and aren't designed for "real" music listening. Joy be with ye!
