If you are wanting to heat up 5 gallons, forget it. I could only get 16 ltr, that is 6.5 ltrs nearly 1.5 gallons short. I am making cheese and I need a capacity of 20 ltrs. All I can say is, 5 gallons... rubbish.

Its built well. It reminds me of a Blichmann (great quality). It has a insert in the bottom to heat quickly and evenly. I have only used it twice, but it performed well. It's impossible to get the last pint out through the valve but it's OK because I just pour the last bit out ( like a bucket).Ascheap, easily done design improvements I would suggest volume markings on the inner wall of the kettle which would help a brewer out a lot.The false bottom is positioned too high. The 201 stainless vessel (valves, etc are 304) concerns me due to less corrosion resistance than 304. However I took a chance with this kettle due to the excellent price point. (70 something dollars).I threw away the cheap teflon tape it came with and used my own.The only other thing I can add is be very careful when assembling. That red o ring goes in the groove of the metal gasket/washer, and that goes against the inside of the kettle when installing the valve. You need to tighten the crap out of it to get it not to leak (just like all the reviews said). I got it to work without any leaks the first time but I tightened it as much as I could (I'm small in stature). I hope this helps. So far I really like this brew kettle and use it exclusively now.

The thermometer and ball valves both leak. User comments suggest using extra joint tape on the threads but that does not appear to be the problem. The two 1/2" male to female threaded couplings do not present a flat surface to make a water tight seal. When I reassembled mine without using the couplings at all, it doesn't leak. Those couplings look like cheap cast(?) plumbing parts, not machined screw machine parts that have square flat surface. Just leave them off.Kettle only holding 4 gallons makes it inappropriate for 5 gallon batches.

If you don't wrap the pipe screws with the included tape it will leak. It actually just holds 4 and 1/2 gallons of liquid. If 4 and 1/2 gallons is enough, and if taped properly, it's a good kettle. Quite useful.
