This is a very innovative and well designed and built tool. Much more useful and user friendly than the standard military-style trenching tool.I bought the option which expands to 35" in length, so one can dig and chop standing up, or you can leave out one or more extension pieces for kneeling and using in a tight space. I confess I wondered just how strong the tool is, but on unpacking it found it is VERY strong, not flimsy or weak at all!A very good buy at an excellent price!

I bought this to take with me on rides to do trail maintenance for mountain biking. I live on the Sunshine Coast where we get a lot of rain in the winter and the trails are in dense forest. The shovel cut through the dirt and roots surprisingly well delivered above and beyond what I was expecting. It fits in my backpack/hydration pack easily with lots of room for other tools and gloves. The hoe/pick feature works great for breaking the ground for easy digging and the shovel head cut through small roots incredibly well.One of my reasons for picking this one was the handle length, it is longer than most but still is not a shovel I would want to be doing a lot of digging with at my age.

I bought this for a gift, at first i couldnt find knife inside and got salty about it, but apparently it was hiding inside of handle. Anyways very satisfied with quality of the product and glad i got this for my mate.

PROS:This entrenching tool is very solidly built. It can take some abuse.The length is far better than many of the much smaller entrenching tools. With most of those other entrenching tools you really have to be down one knee to use it, with this one you'll have to bend over a little, but you don't have to be on your knees. Get the extension bars to increase the length and you won't have to bend over much. (It will add some weight though.)The components fit together excellently and will hold up while using the tool.The shovel head and the pick can be secured in position by a twist lock. Just turn the twist lock until it seats tightly against the shoulders of the shovel head and pick.All of the components fit into the carrying pouch easily, and there's room for an extra extension bar, or two.The handle is comfortable to hold.The knife can be screwed into one of the bars and then they can be stacked to make a "pig-sticker" for spear fishing.The carrying pouch is well built and designed -- with strong fabric, and MOLLE system attachments.CONS:It's a bit on the heavy side for a camping tool. That's not to say that it's very heavy, but it would be great if they could have made it somewhat lighter weight.
