I have a leather satchel which contains all of my drawing pencils and a drawing pad. I have been wanting to get back to drawing and sketching again, and having the case helps me carry it due to some temporary mobility restrictions. This set is perfect to throw in there.CASEThe case is a tough heavy duty case with a tough zipper that works smoothly. It is slim, yet carries everything I could ever want to do sketching.QUALITYI have grown to really enjoy SOHO products. This set is another winner for me. The charcoal sticks have willow which is my favorite (and not always easy to get). The blending tools are in various sizes and there are plenty of them. The different colors of drawing sticks allow me to add some sienna colors to my drawings too. The sharpening board is a must for some detail work also. Kneaded eraser is good- this set has good quality of everything in it.I have to say that I am very happy with the quality of all of these tools They work well for me and perform as I would expect and want them to.MANIKINI have to say that I was thrilled to have this little guy in the set. It is a great way to quickly set up a person in a sketch without having to have a person stand there for me. I did not think I would use it, but I do.THE BOTTOM LINEThis is a compact kit which has everything I want for drawing from graphite to willow charcoal and in between. It is easy to take with me, easy to access, and the quality is great.MY RATINGFIVE STARS. I love this set and am VERY glad to have it. It has replaced my other drawing set which I was using until now. I like this one a lot better.

This set has a good assortment of drawing tools, including both vine and willow charcoal sticks, graphite pencils, charcoal pencils, and six Conte crayons (to use with a trois crayons technique). The set also includes blending stumps, a small chamois (also for blending), sandpaper (for creating charcoal powder – and potentially for sharpening the charcoal sticks), a small articulated wooden mannequin, and a kneaded eraser. The kneaded eraser is especially useful in lifting the charcoal to add fine, lighter details. I use the eraser in this set exclusively with charcoal drawings, which means I can reserve my other kneaded erasers for pencils and other media. This set does not include a sharpener.The zippered case is good, although it covers a lot of real estate when opened (as shown in the photo). The elastic loops in the case are very useful for keeping everything organized and in place.The differences between the charcoal pencils and graphite pencils, in terms of appearance, are not large, and I need to keep the pencils in the right place to keep them organized. Fortunately, with this case, organization is easy.The mannequin doesn’t stay in base, and it has limited articulation. I haven’t figured out how to use this small model effectively yet, but I expect I’ll find a use when I want to do small sketches of figures in motion.I mostly use this charcoal set for sketches (on white or toned paper); an example using the vine charcoal on tan-toned paper is attached.I hadn’t worked with charcoal much before, but having this set has been a great way to explore this medium. I have been surprised to discover how much I enjoy this – and particularly love the smooth, velvety marks of the vine charcoal. The only three things that an artist needs, in addition to this set, to explore charcoal are: (1) paper (preferably with some texture, and perhaps in grey or tan), (2) a sharpener for the pencils, and (3) some workable fixative, to protect a finished piece. (Full disclosure: I also wear a nitrile glove when I am working with this set, to keep from getting charcoal all over my hands, the studio, and the entire house!). Drawing with charcoal can be a meditative and creative experience – this set supports a great start!

I am basically brand new to the world of drawing, so I didn’t know where to start. When I saw this kit, I knew it had some sketching basics, so I grabbed it right away. I knew I needed an art manikin to help me with proportions when drawing anatomy and, it provided me with an introduction to a lot of different art supplies all in one place.This kit contains the following: 1) a carrying case, 2), a wooden manikin with a base, 3) a chamois, 4) a sandpaper block that has five sheets of attached sandpaper, 5) three blending stumps – small, medium, and large, 6) two tortillions, 7) a kneadable eraser, 8) one box of three Vine charcoals – assorted extra soft, soft, and medium, 9) one box of six Willow charcoal – 6-8mm, 10) one stick of Willow charcoal – 10mm, 11) three woodless charcoal pencils – soft, medium, and hard, 12) three woodless graphite pencils – 4B, 6B, and 8B, and 13) six colored Conte sticks – black, grey, white, and three shades of sanguine.I did swatch the pencils and the Conte sticks so you can see the colors available. (See photo.)This kit is a great introduction to sketching supplies. I barely know anything about sketching but from watching my favorite content creators, I have a good idea of the things that I will need. With this kit in mind, I will be able to get started on almost any of the ideas I have floating around in my head. The only thing missing is paper. That is my next purchase. As I understand it, there are multiple types of papers available for the different types of mediums one wishes to use as an artist.This is such a great way to get started with one’s sketching. I absolutely recommend this kit to anyone looking to start their journey into the World of Art.

While this would make a great gift, I used it myself as I wanted to try out charcoal drawing. It was messy but fun and while I won't be a major artist any time soon I can say this set was great for a beginner like me and was very enjoyable.

This has everything you ned to get started with sketching in Charcoal, down to the positionable mannequin. It has everything nicely organized and held in place with elastic bands. It's small enough to take with you or keep in the car for those times when you have to wait for something or someone and need something to do. You'll also want to keep some wipes on hand for easy cleanup on the go, as charcoal is quite messy. Overall, I'm very happy with this set. It has a great selection of drawing tools and is well worth the price.
