Doesn't allow you to autolevel in the X axis but not in the Y axis. This is needed when you need to point laser higher on a wall.Doesn't allow you to ajust spacing of tick marks except by moving laser forward and backward. That said I couldn't find any other brands that did these things.

It does what it says, and I have no issues seeing the light inside. Green, not red, so better visibility.Only thing I'd like some gimmick for is a way to make sure that the thing is perpendicular to the wall.

The product is well made and accurate for center vertical and horizontal marking - BUT the claim that "Projected measuring marks cross the horizontal and vertical lines at even intervals and make it easy to tackle jobs that require equal spacing" is absolutely misleading. In order to do this you would have to ensure that this level is not only level on two planes but absolutely perpendicular spaced to the wall - which means even if you could do these calibrations (never with the clamp supplied but perhaps with a tripod and ball head) you would need a good old fashioned level !!! and lots of time for a single setup. The fact that this doesn't work in practice is one thing but the fact that the marketing people at Skil are using this misleading claim as a way to out out-class basic horizontal / vertical laser levels is not acceptableThe USB rechargeable battery is a big bonus feature! We need to get rid of disposable batteries so thank you for that Skil and yes the green laser is much more visible than red.But if you are buying this to mark out anything but center vertical and horizontal look at the more basic models from Skil and other manufacturers. It doesn't do anything else but look cool on the wall.

I bought this because I wanted to put up some shelves in my garage and had absolutely no desire to bust out the tape measure and pencil. It helped me get the job done a lot easier and faster than if I didn’t have it, but there are some things I don’t like about it. First off, the clamp attachment it comes with is borderline useless. Luckily the threads seem to be your run of the mill kind used on most camera tripods. I had a cheap-o compact 6” tripod that worked great for this project. The auto-level feature isn’t that great or useful either. I was hoping I could angle the level up to the height I needed it and then use the auto-level to make the line straight. In reality all it does is unlock the laser emitter so it swings freely, which allows it to come to a rest that’s about as level as whatever surface it’s on. Then when you want to lock it, you have to be extremely careful because the lock requires so much force you’re highly likely to cause the emitter to move as you engage the lock switch.Despite these frustrations, I’ve realized pretty much all laser levels are like this, so it’s not like this one is uniquely problematic. Just do some extra checks to make sure your line is true before you start driving screws into your wall. I ended using my tape measure in the end to double check that the two ends of the laser were at the same height. Still made the job easier than if I did it from start to finish with the tape measure. Once I had one shelf up. I was able to use that as a reference to make sure I had the laser set up correctly. If I had to buy another laser level, I’d probably buy one without the “auto-level feature,” and instead opt for one with a fixed emitter. I’d definitely get another green one, though. The green is actually much easier to see than red lasers I’ve seen, even in a brightly lit room in daylight.

This is a great little laser for the price. The green laser has much better visibility in bright light. The unit can turn on in one of two ways, 1. Hitting the green power button on the top when the pendulum is locked, and 2. Unlocking the laser leveling pendulum by sliding the switch. Upon unlocking, it'll take just a few seconds for gravity to do its thing and level the laser out. The unit needs to be fairly level already or else a red light will indicate that it can't level the laser (nice that it tells you). In order to use with interesting angles, or pointing it down, i'll power it up when it's locked so I'm free to move it in any direction I need. Take note that if you need to angle it up or down at all, the leveling pendulum will need to be locked or else it won't be happy. Overall, very simple controls to get a simple leveled laser beam on a wall.Pros:Nice bright green laserVisible in direct sunlightHas additional vertical hash marks in the laser beam patternmicro-USB rechargableDecent clamp and storage bag included in the kitScrew on tripod connectors on both the top and bottom of the unitHas both vertical and horizontal beam patterns.Cons:Will only get a few hours of battery lifeNeed to lock pendulum to get any sort of additional anglesLaser beam isn't the greatest of quality. You can see some artifacts when close the beam pattern.Overall, this is great for those small projects around the house like simply hanging up a picture frame or putting up shelving.
