It works okay, but I do have to go slow to get a good cut on the yarn so it is even. I like this cutting tool better because of the clear guide attached to it that ensures a perfect cut of the newly tufted rug. And if you have made a rug for your friend or family member (or a customer), you want the rug to look as good as you can make it, both in the artwork of the design to the feel of the cut when it's ready to lay down (or hang) on the floor. I personally love doing the Anime characters for my grown children and their friends - they all love them and that last "shave" to get one ready for them is important to me!

We were a little confused when we got this order in the mail. Because my Wife distinctly remembers ordering something for trimming carpet, and using with her tufting gun on a variety of craft and other projects that she was working on. It seemed like a novel little tool. But then what we got when opened it, was something clearly used for shearing sheep. Nothing about carpet mentioned on the box. Granted we do have livestock on our land, just no sheep. So we wondered why we were getting something for shearing wool. That's when we realized this was the carpet trimmer that we ordered.We used it carpet, and it does work really well. So in that respect, I'd say it's a five star product. But I did have to take at least one star off the rating. Not as a reflection of the product itself. But the way that it's marketed here on Amazon. Because if I had ordered this as a gift for someone that needed it for carpet, and they got what we did in the mail (a case with pictures of sheep and a product clearly advertised as being used to shear sheep), they'd be confused. Especially if they have no livestock (though just about everyone in our neck of the woods admittedly has some type of livestock). It seemed like someone had 10,000 sheep shearing tools that they bulk-ordered and had sitting in a warehouse, and came up with a new angle of how they could sell them. Which I can't fault them for. But at least change the label, or how you advertise them, because it could confuse someone who got this as a gift.

these are legit sheep shearers more than rug tufting trimmers, do no be fooled! if using these for rug tufting, this is for the general pass before carving. but! when needing to trim muuultiple rugs however, this thing is your best friend. it can mow down stray hairs with not only its powerful 700w motor, but the sheer amount of surface area influenced cuts production time in half, easily. added a pic to show it compared to the more traditional carving shears you see on the market and what a lot of rug makers have. it's simply a giant. to try and carve using this would end in disaster, no doubt. it does come with a leveling guide for consistent rug trimming, even when this machine is clearly capable of shearing an entire herd of sheep and calling it a day, it also comes equipped to evenly trim a stack of rugs back to back to back. love having this option, to be able to blow through the general trim is a game changer. and while i will still keep the smaller 200w trimmer for carving and detailing, i'm super psyched to add this big bad boy to the bag
