I am a new customer and new to the wood carving world. I bought this set because I thought it was a good idea to get all that I needed in one box. I want to say that this product was worth the money for a beginner like myself. The safety items are most needed as I found out very quickly. The only complaint I might have is that the basswood blocks were very hard to work on even after soaking them with water and alcohol. and some of the knives needed to be worked on. Would I recommend this item for a beginner yes.

I bought this for my son to learn to whittle and this was not beginner friendly and extremely difficult to use. the instructions didn’t show you how to do anything just gave you an outline to glue to wood and that was that. The knives provided were not even sharp enough to cut through the wood properly. However the wood seemed good thick quality wood. This was a decent sized kit for the money but i’m just not comfortable giving my son a bunch of dull knives and no instruction and saying go for it. I did appreciate the cut free gloves but I just cannot recommend this product for beginners especially, I returned it.

I bought this for my son (21) who loves to fish and camp and wanted something to do while he was out doing his thing. This is a great starter set, however, the sharpening stone it comes with is not good enough to keep the blades sharp for long. I ended up buying a stone sharpening kit that comes with different grits so he can actually use the tools. Bottom line, if you decide to buy this, make sure to also buy extra grit stones also.
