For larger dogs, and used correctly, these are great collars. Please apply correctly, and make sure you pay attention to how it sits as that is very important with these collars, but if you are situationally aware and make proper corrections, there is no better collar.

Just as I said HS is the only option, we have in the past tried several different “bargain” prong collars that caused pain or worse didn’t do any correcting. We use this on our 6 month old 80lb American Bully for walking her harness is for safety while riding in the car but she loves wearing it. In conjunction with the snap release the Herm Sprenger works so well my 12 year olds can walk her and she heels every-time a great change from the martingale collar she had been on. I even bought one for my mother whose 90lb 1 year old lab was solely walked on a no pull harness which empowered him to drag her through the neighborhood a dramatic change occurred when we snapped this leash and he was treated when doing right. We chose stainless for our dog’s white coat, other metals tend to darken her fur.

I got this collar when the previous collar left rust marks on my dogs fur. This is a good quality product. I resisted against using this type of collar until my 100 lb. Bloodhound pulled me down and i broke my arm. Now i feel safe to walk him and he and i both enjoy the walk.

Was afraid to walk my 8 months old German Shepherd puppy after me pulled me down trying to get at a dog behind a fence that was barking at us. Luckily I was able to hold onto the leash even while laying on the ground. But this scared me. So I ordered the Herms Spranger prong collar. Watched a free video (from Shield K9) that was excellent explaining the proper use of this collar. The difference has been like night and day. Now waits patiently at the door before exiting and then waits quietly while I close the door. Mostly walks well on a loose leash and can easily be corrected by a jerk on the collar. Usually just needs a mild correction, a bit stronger if tries to pull towards a barking dog. I am so glad I got this. And, no, it is not harsh. You do have to know how to use it properly, though. You never use a steady pull, just a quick jerk as a correction. I highly recommend this collar if you have trouble controlling a LARGE breed dog. But please educate yourself on the correct usage.
