Not working at all

I didn't realize this was some sort of old new stock. Zebra no longer supports this printer, which means that getting the drivers is annoying. The included instructions mention which driver you _shouldn't_ get, but doesn't explain which driver you need to get.I wasn't able to get it to print correctly on Windows at all. I had some success on linux, using cups printer drivers.Drivers aside, my unit also has a loose power jack, which means that unless I apply pressure to the power connection, the printer turns off.I don't plan on trying to go through the warranty process, so I can't comment on how effective it would be.The printer itself is old, the biggest feature I wish it had is being able to roll the label back in. Every power cycle it has to find the edge of the label, which ends up wasting 1-2 labels.

So this thing works well overall. For a refurbished device, it is great. My one issue is that I cannot for the life of me get it calibrated quite correctly, so my printed labels are getting the margins incorrect (if I try to print at the largest possible size for the paper), often cutting off a bit to the left of the paper and leaving too much space to the right. I know I should be able to resolve this with enough knowledge/competency about how these printers work, but the fact that it doesn't work out of the box is a bit frustrating. I also have a second, cheaper off-brand thermal label printer that has never given me the same trouble. That said, this printer does have some distinct advantages. I have more confidence that the label is loaded correctly in this (just how the loading hardware works). It has its own language (ZPL), which I am guessing means you can do a lot more with this printer in terms of software than you could do with my noname printer. (But my primary use-case for now is just printing shipping labels and occasionally receipts.) I am guessing that, given the Zebra brand and the fact that this refurb model works, Zebra printers are easier to maintain and last longer than the offbrands. It feels sturdier than my other printer as well, and it prints faster (although these are all quite fast in any case). Also, I do love the aesthetic on this. I am always a fan of computer equipment that looks like it came out of the 90s and early 00s (which I believe this did). I'm going to continue using this as my main label printer for now, and hopefully I can figure out how to calibrate it better. I'll keep around my other printer as a backup.
