I used this to pre-drill every board for a new deck; over 400 screws - this worked perfectly the entire time.

I have been looking for a countersink with non-marring stop, and have been put off by the ~$40 price of the leading brand (although I am sure it is excellent and is very popular among pros, it is still expensive). I decided to try this one out when I had the chance to evaluate it for Vine. I drilled 20 holes perfectly into pre-finished plywood, all clean and set to the same depth. I will probably get the 5-piece set so I get other size bits, and with two bodies, can have two sizes ready. The only design flaw is that the depth collar has to be moved to get to the set screw to adjust the drill bit length (it is on the inner black countersink body, unless you have it set for a deep counterbore for plugs. This meant that I had to re-adjust the depth stop, testing on scrap and adjusting further if needed. If your project is all one size screw, not a big deal, but if you have multiple lengths, it could be a little disruption to the work flow. The set screw in the gold body is for the depth stop. For the price, however, I can't see myself spending 2-3x as much to get the big name brand version for my home/hobby use, at least until I get the rest of the tools on my wishlist.

I really liked this countersink drill bit. It has the unique feature of a free spinning depth stop that surrounds the countersink portion of the drill bit. This free spinning depth stop allows me to drill the pilot holes and place the countersink for the screw heads at exactly the depth I want without having to worry about going to deep or drilling out the back of the wood! Most countersinks do not have depth stops so you often cannot see how deep you are sinking the countersink for the screw head. If you sink it too deep, then you chance that the screw head will not be stopped in time to prevent the screw going all the way through the wood. This can mar the finish on the opposite side of the wood, which is often the outer side of the cabinet!Having a free spinning depth stop means that when you reach the depth of the counter sink desired for the screw head, the depth stop will prevent you from going any deeper. Also, because the depth stop is free spinning, the depth stop will be able to actually stop spinning while the drill bit continues to spin. This prevents the depth stop from burning or marring the wood around the screw hole. Ingenious! This is really my favorite feature. This does make the countersink more expensive because of the added parts and exacting fit needed to make it all work together, but it is well worth it when you are making fine wood cabinets that you don't want to chance screwing through. The one thing I didn't like but will not downgrade this item for is that the depth stop readings used to set the depth of the stop is in such fine, small lettering that it is very hard to read. But since there really is no other way to put all that information on the depth stop without omitting increments, I'll just have to let it be. Rather have all the measurements available and use reading glasses than not have them at all.

I'm a graduate degree'd engineer with a passion for well designed tools and also the owner of a handyman business who uses his tools daily to earn a living. With that as perspective ...This is actually the second of these tools I've ordered, with the first (the identical twin of this DTRUCTIEW countersink) having been used extensively over the last two months. I've used it to do small and large deck repairs on both pressure treated lumber and super hard Brazilian Ipe hardwood. I've used it to build furniture from black walnut and built-in shelving units from oak. So, with that experience I can say with confidence that this is the best designed, best quality, most functional countersink I've used to date.Note that one this countersink bit the cutters that gouge out the conical countersink hole are carbide, which will remain sharp far longer than a cutter made from a tool steel. The vast majority of countersink bits use tool steel cutters, which is less expensive to build this tool with, but will wear far faster. I wouldn't be surprised if the carbide cutters on this countersink last 5-10 times as long as tool steel cutters, based on the rate at which I was replacing countersink bits using tool steel cutters. I do have another countersink bit with carbide cutters that's specifically marketed for deck building, but it costs 2x the cost of this DTRUCTIEW tool and it's far clunkier to use. The design of this far less expensive DTRUCTIEW carbide cutter countersink is actually superior to that more expensive tool, making it more convenient in use and the countersink I've reached for 100% of the time over the few months I've owned it.A few other things I like about the DTRUCTIEW countersink:- It comes in a plastic storage box that keeps it organized and protected.- It comes with the necessary Allen key.- The rotating ring works well to avoid marring the you're drilling into and a replacement ring is included.- The drill bit is just a standard bit, easily obtainable at minimal cost at your local hardware store if a replacement is needed. This is simply a superior countersink compared to typical countersinks using tool steel cutters. It cuts cleaner, will last far longer, the smart design is easy to accurately adjust and convenient to use, all at a very fair price. I'd give this tool 6 stars if I could.

I recently received an assortment of 4 tapered countersinks with depth stops for the same price. I imagine there is some specialty application for this bit, but the high wear 1/8" cutting lip is uncoated HSS, and will dull first. The other components (though nice) seem overdone. It would make sense if replacement 1/8" bits were also included.
