Blue Sea Systems dash plug and socket is much better than the run-of-the mill set. Often these cigarette lighter connects are not motion-resistant even though they are installed in cars and boats. This design includes a rubber seal and guide wings on the plug that keeps the plug tight in the socket. That is especially important when transferring the rated 10 amps. Poor connection cause excessive heat and can pose a melting/fire hazard. Blue Sea Systems comes through as ususal.

Arrived today and it seems really well made.I disassembled the plug and it looks to be a no brainer to connect.I hear about the socket turning in the panel, and since I just have the cigar lighter, I'm not sure it will be a problem.UPDATE: I'm using the plug (male part) into another 12 v. socket. The slightest bump makes the plug turn off. I actually thought it had a built in switch, click on/click off.Unfortunately, it's powering the rear view camera in my RV so when I arrive, the camera is off until I go in and reseat the plug....again. It's defeating the purpose of a back up camera.I've resorted to taping the two parts together.Maybe it locks into it's mate, but it sure doesn't lock into anything else.UPDATE: I had to wrap tape around the plug and socket to keep it connected. It's like it has a spring inside that pushes the plug out in 20 seconds.The parts are very well made, that's why I bought Blue Seas, but they over engineered this.A $1 plug from Radio Shack would have worked better!

These are some of the best I've used. The sockets are well built, come with both a surface plate and a rear fixing nut, and have the Blue Sea locking feature that keeps the plug in place even in the most turbulent conditions.The plugs are well built and very easy to hook up, with clamp holes to insert the stripped/twisted end of the wire. 16 Ga wire is no problem both at the clamp and inside the body (plenty of room to route the wires). The exit wire clamp is functional and there is a rubber stress relief.The plugs have a 10 Amp fuse integrated into the spring loaded center contact point, an integrated LED to indicate power, shaped side contacts that lock into the socket and a wiper gasket to provide some sealing when the plug is in the socket.Overall, well suited for harsh environment use.
