Surprised how well they work. Just took a trip to Cancun Mexico and they were fantastic. Cant wait to try other languages. Cost is better than others I checked out.

The VTrans translating earbuds only work by downloading the VTrans.AI app. I was able to get in on the iOS APP store without having to scan the QR code that comes in the mini instruction booklet. The headset connects to your phone via bluetooth. In order to have translation working, you must have an internet connection (WiFi or data connection). If you are traveling in another country, you’ll either need to connect to WiFi or have a data plan for your cell phone. If you have no internet connection, you cannot translate with the basic package. The headset does not autodetect languages but in the app you can set the primary and secondary languages. There are various options included in the basic service package that comes with the earphones, including simultaneous interpretation and external translation.Simulteaneous interpretation is set up by first selecting the languages in the app and then each person wears one earbud. After the speaker stops talking, the AI translates into the earbud. There is a pause of a second or two after the speaker stops talking allowing the AI to work out the translation. Then the wearer listens to the translation and can choose to respond, when the process repeats with the other earbud. It’s a little odd having to wait for the translation, but it is effective and does a good job translating.Translations are mostly literal translations (word for word). Idiomatic expressions (e.g. loose lips sink ships) can sometimes come through. For example, when a speaker stated “En boca cerrada no entran moscas” the AI translated this to “Flies don’t go into closed mouths” and then on another occasion translated it to “Loose lips sink ships”. Translation to/from Spanish, Portuguese and French seem to work well. The basic package also includes photo translation where the app scans a photo for text and then translates the language onto your phone. The negative for me is that to get offline translation (where no data connection or wifi is needed) requires a separate one-year or two-year subscription. The subscription is not expensive and may be a cost effective option for international travel, particularly where cell reception isn’t known.

Great invention. It's very useful... only negative thing i can say is that it needs to fit snuggly in the ear than not. That's my only downfall...

The advertising for this product is a lie!!! It advertises 150 available languages. Moreover, it requires a subscription and it only has 10 available languages for translation with English being one of the languages! What a waste of time and money! I'm returning them for a refund.
