Just what I needed to consolidate a pallet and my own filled pans

pans don’t snap on this one like other palettes. It’s like the rows are not the right height nor depth and/or the edges that should snap over to hold it in is not in the right location. The tar inside with the rows is also very wobly. The only reason keeping it is that it has three rows and that’s hard to find.

The mixing wells are nice too - I like the 5 big ones vs the 4. They do get quite stained.

I have bought two of these palettes before, and they were fully functional as a palette upon arrival. The third palette arrived with the inner flap unable to fully open. The furthest it could rotate was to a vertical position above the body of the palette. This not only made the inner flap useless as part of the palette, it also made the rest of the palette awkward to use with the inner flap always threatening to slam down. I bet some gentle readers are thinking that it's a metal rod problem or something is bent along the edge. It might be repairable if the rod or bent side are bent back into shape. I couldn't find a bent edge or corner getting in the way, and this rod is cut shorter than earlier rods, and I have no way to remove the rod to check if it's straight. So the third palette is going back, and I have asked to be sent a replacement. These are not the sturdiest palettes to begin with. One earlier palette has a flap rod cut so that the rod is always trying to slide out, and I need to check on this rod from time to time and shove it back in. While there are exterior rounded edges, there are edges on the interior of the palette that are sharp enough to cut skin if one is not careful. The metal feels flimsy, and can be bent by one pair of human hands. In all three palettes, the interior and exterior finish is good. The white finish on the interior of the palette is not stain resistant - I make one side of the palette for use with phthalos only because I will never get that blue-green color out ever again. All three palettes close very tightly with the F-Club pans I bought remaining firmly in their place, making these palettes secure for travel. I can slide them into my purse with some brushes inside, and not worry about staining pigments dripping into my purse. My words might sound like I am damning these palettes with faint praise, and there may be some truth to that. But these are not bad palettes, either- if they were, I would not be buying a third one. I have bought palettes from other places and those palettes were worse - sharper, flimsier, and clumsier- and were immediately returned. While there are better palettes out there, the price point increases significantly for those palettes. So these palettes are pretty good for the price, and accomplish the main purpose I have for them - a tightly sealing travel palette that makes it easy to take watercolors with me on a daily basis. If I have in my purse one of these small palettes with 2 brushes and a sketching pencil inside, one small sketchbook, and a bottle of water, then I can find a little watercolor happiness in an otherwise tedious and busy day.

I was expecting the smaller (1/4?) pans, but was pleasantly surprised when I realized they were the 1/2 pans. I compared Schmincke’s 1/2 pans for a visual comparison & clearly these pans are larger. However after reading the comments, this isn’t everybody’s experience which sucks bcuz albeit I love them, I’m hesitant about re-purchasing in case I don’t get the pans I ordered.Cheers 🇨🇦
